Since gravity acts, at least as we perceive it, in a downwards direction, then a ladder is an anti-gravity device (just like a shelf).

If the device providing this ability to proceed along the y dimensional axis (vertical) is translated into another dimension, for example x (horizontal), what happens to our understanding of up and down?
