Folded
(2009)

card, steel nuts & bolts
30 x 45 x 25 cm

Identical individual compound-folded card forms joined together with nuts and bolts.

Further information

Inspired by mathematical principles and fractals, this form comprises 32 separate card elements, each 12 x 8 cm. The elements were each scored and folded in a pattern that enables them to be compressed and curved while retaining structural strength due to the three-dimensional nature of the folding technique. The elements also interlock together, and are secured by nuts and bolts enabling contortions and tension to be held. Within the overall form is contained the dichotomy of a regular, rectilinear repeated element, and also irregular curvilinear arrangement.
